Slowly but Surely
The EAA Reservoir project has made its way into WRDA (Water Resources Development Act) which moves it one step closer to receiving funding. This is good news for everyone who has been pushing for the completion of this $1.4 billion project.
The Reservoir promises to reduce discharges to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries and bring more water to the Florida Bay when needed. Despite a fraught process, rife with special interest groups and political meddling, the Reservoir is a critical component of CERP that will aid how the SFWMD can more effectively manage water.
WRDA has passed its Congressional Committees and now moves on to the Office of Management and Budget. Thereafter it should go to Congress for ultimate approval. We are waiting patiently.
