Speak Up 2017

TIME SENSITIVE

If we told you that watching a movie could save Florida Bay, would you do it? Would you make time in your schedule? Could you find 90 minutes to bring about positive change?

TIME FOR THE SPEAK UP 2017 CAMPAIGN

Ten minutes per week, every week, from now through the end of March. Your commitment makes a crucial difference. Pick up the phone. Call your policymakers. (Well, you'll probably speak to an aide, but that's OK. All calls are logged with the subject of concern). Tell them you want them to take action to preserve the Florida Bay.

WHY NOW?

2017 is a critical year for Everglades restoration. Incoming Senate President Joe Negron promises to push Everglades restoration during this legislative session. A bill to accomplish that has been introduced. Now it has to pass.

SO, WHEN YOU CALL, SAY THIS:

"I am deeply concerned about the future of the Florida Bay. I support the Now or Neverglades Declaration. It states that increased storage, treatment and conveyance of water south of Lake Okeechobee is essential to stop the damaging discharges to coastal estuaries, and to restore the flow of clean, fresh water to the Florida Bay. I urge you to support Senator Joe Negron in his push for legislation that will address this issue."

While you're at it, Give Senator Negron a call and thank him for prioritizing water storage south of Lake Okeechobee, and Florida Bay/Everglades restoration. Let him know you support his efforts! (772) 219-1665.

NO MORE ARMCHAIR DEMOCRACY

This is the year that legislators will be reminded that they work for US, the people they represent. Your voice is crucial to both sending that message, and the message to prioritize Everglades and Florida Bay restoration.

SPREAD THE WORD

We know it's rough out there. There's a LOT to fight for these days. Saving the world - or saving Florida Bay - can feel lonely and hopeless at times. So take a friend or family member along with you! Like-minded folks are out there. Give them a chance to invigorate the journey to healing south Florida's treasured waters. The more voices that speak up, the less you have to shout.
